Spring has sprung! Which means that the Towson Tigers 4 Tigers are springing back into action!
On Friday, March 4, we will be celebrating Big Cat Day with West Towson Elementary school from 9:30-11am. This school is going all out in its efforts to inspire their students to be aware of and involved in tiger conservation. They have invited third grade students to participate in an essay contest with the topic being: “If you could be a Big Cat, which one would it be, and why did you pick it?” The Towson Tigers 4 Tigers students have been given the exciting honor of judging the essay contest with awards to be given for Most Creative, Most Factual, and Best Description of Habitat. Mascots from both schools, Towson University’s Doc and West Towson’s Westy, will be partnering up to greet the students as they arrive for the big assembly. To help support the Big Cat Initiative, students even have the opportunity to donate one dollar so they can wear Crazy Hats for Big Cats. Students who donate will be entered in a book drawing for Big Cat books at the end of the assembly.
The assembly will begin with the entire school doing a Big Cat identification dance. Then the third grade students will perform specialized dances showcasing big cat brains, habitats, habitat destruction, and energy, closing their performance with a dance to the classic “Circle of Life”. After the assembly is finished, T4T members will meet with the third grade students for more Big Cat fun and presentations by the T4T students. This partnership between Tigers 4 Tigers and West Towson Elementary was made possible by a Towson University graduate now working at the elementary school teaching third graders, Karen Kuebler. She received her BFA in Dance and French Education and her MA in Liberal Arts from Towson. Karen is a shining example of Tigers making a difference in our community in helping to raise awareness in our youth of the situations faced by our mascots in the wild. Our T4T members are thrilled to be working with our neighboring schools to raise awareness and celebrate our love for wildlife.
By working together, we can make an even bigger roar.
